Chris Newport studied classical piano before taking up the double bass to join a jazz band in Rome.

On keyboards he has played in a variety of rock bands, jazz groups and classical ensembles, has arranged for orchestra and worked for a while as a cabaret accompanist.
He once sang backing vocals for Cliff Richard.
